July through October is the strong second choice — cooler, still mostly dry, and better value than the December–March peak. The two stretches to plan around rather than avoid entirely are April–June (the long rains) and November (the short rains) — both bring real rain most days, though tours still run and hotel rates drop noticeably.

- September–October — Warming back up, still largely dry. One of the better shoulder-season windows for value and weather together.

If your priority is value and fewer people rather than guaranteed sun, June through October is the sweet spot — the long rains have cleared, prices haven't climbed to peak-season levels yet, and the weather is genuinely good more days than not. I'd steer properly rain-averse travelers away from April and May specifically, but June onward is a fair trade-off for a quieter trip.
